Statement
I combine my interest in plant textures, colours and patterns with abstraction in my most recent painting series of floral arrangements and plant close-ups. I am interested in the way that arrangements whether in a vessel, posy, or bouquet can pose dualities - reflecting both beauty and decay and suggesting gift giving and spiritual spell wielding. Several of my paintings are inspired by my small Edinburgh city garden and the magic that can be held within these intimate spaces. Memories, atmosphere, the seasons and time also inform the works which are resolved intuitively through my use of domestic material fragments and wallpaper patterns.
I work across a variety of media and techniques and experimentation is a key part of my process. I enjoy following my intuition with colour and composition, letting my paintings evolve organically over time, echoing the plant growth cycle.
